About
House Mice are mammals in the order Rodentia. Over the years, the house mouse has become domesticated and often referred to as the fancy mouse or the laboratory mouse.
- Habits
Their behavior is either commensal or noncommencal. Commensal behavior happens when mice are in buildings in urban areas with close proximity to humans. This is when there is an excessive food source. Both male to male and female to female aggression is minimal due to the high population within a condensed space. When inside, they will eat almost all human food with grain-based products such as cereal being their favorite. Noncommencal behavior happens when the mice are in outside open areas such as shrubs and fields. Due to the free-range of space, both females and males aggression is higher. In both situations, males mark their territories by scent with urine. When outside, they eat insects, nuts, and fruits.
- Threats
House mice can spread diseases such as salmonella, hantavirus, and listeria through their saliva, droppings, urine, and nesting areas. The larger the infestation, the risk of contracting these deadly diseases increases.
- Prevention
Mice breed year-round, producing five to ten litters per year, with an average of six to eight babies per litter. A family of seven can multiply into seventy over three months. So do not think an infestation can not happen quickly. Due to the diseases, they can cause, it is vital to stop and control the problem immediately.
